When you roll into Morro Bay you anticipate the first view of the rock, the weather, beaches, the surf, but what I actually spotted was much more exciting. Right before I hit the embarcadero I gazed upon a slick 23 Dodge/Ford roadster. I immediately had to find out where this rod was created. Right down the street at 1147 Scott st. sat Bear Metal Kustoms, the only shop I know of that while creating traditional masterpieces can gaze at Morro Rock through the back bay door.
Jason and Rochelle Pall established the rod shop in 2005 in hops of creating a comfortable lifestyle while doing what they love. Since the first day Jason has been gaining momentum amongst the Central Coast, the press, and in the hot rod industry as a whole. One thing that I found interesting is that BMK doesn’t spend a cent on advertising or marketing. Their customer waiting list is based on word of mouth and the public’s response to their creations at car gatherings. Rochelle pride themselves in building their customers affordable hot rods with a shop rate of only $75.00. After walking the shop and observing the staffs work ethic I can surly testify to their efficiency. All work done on these vintage machines is photo documented so that the customer can see the progress and trust that they are being treated fairly.
When you visit Bear Metal Kustoms you will find they have the ability to build a car from top to bottom with the exception of interior. Some of their shop services include: motor and trans swaps, body mods, louver punching, chopping, custom paint matching, fabrication, chassis work, axel dropping, brake swaps/upgrades, and bead rolling. Currently the shop is full of projects that are all at different stages. Stop by and introduce yourself and check out the top-notch work. Jason and Rochelle’s future vision for BMK is to stay tradition, conservative in size, and to keep living the dream.
