One day as I was cruising around the H.A.M.B. I stumbled apon some of the best automotive photography I have ever seen. I instantly shot an email to the artist because I had to know more about him and his company Hot Rod Dirty's Photography. What is the story behind Hot Rod Dirty's Photography? First and foremost, owner David Trent of Kentucky is a hot rodder. Like a cool guitar store where an actual musician sells you the instrument, he also drives and works on hot rods, they are his passion and taking pictures of them just begins to scratch the surface.Never having the first bit of technical training or a photography class, he even tossed out the instruction manual for his first camera. “Not proud of that fact, but sometimes you just have to jump into things.” The need for good photography was born out of necessity. Being in online retail and learning fast that the guy with the better picture got the sale, he learned to use his “eye” to make the item look better in the picture than it ever did in real life by finding that unreal angle and pulling the best color out of the subject. “Its all about the lighting, that is all that really matters, with the right lighting and angle, you can make any subject look good!”

With style ranging from classy traditional to post apocalyptic grunge, there is only one thing David concentrates on and that is a cool shot no matter what the subject. Whether shooting for a magazine or a customer, the end goal is to hand the client a picture of their pride and joy that far exceeds its real life appeal.
